What Nous Research has said
Nous Research builds Hermes Agent as open-source software you run on your own computer or server. Its official clients are the terminal, the Hermes desktop app and the web dashboard, plus a messaging gateway that connects Hermes to apps like Telegram, Discord, Slack, Signal and iMessage.
A community request for an official mobile app is open on GitHub (issue #98196), and two community pull requests for a mobile shell and a progressive web app have not been merged. In October 2026 Nous published a Software Engineer, Mobile role for native iOS and Android, and co-founder Teknium wrote on X that the mobile app kickoff had begun. There is no release date.
Ways to use Hermes Agent from your phone today
| Option | Who makes it | What it is good at | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Messaging gateway (Telegram, Discord, Signal, iMessage…) | Nous Research | Free, works anywhere, nothing new to install | Text approvals (reply or /approve), no Watch, CarPlay or Live Activities |
| Web dashboard over Tailscale | Nous Research | Full control panel in the browser | Built for desktop screens, no push or voice on the phone |
| Community apps (Herald, Hermex, Hermes Conduit and others) | Independent developers | Native chat, approvals, push, voice and device features | Unofficial; features, prices and quality vary |
Where Herald fits
Herald is one of the community apps. It is an independent app by @iamlukethedev, not made or endorsed by Nous Research. It connects straight to the Hermes Agent you run, with no Herald server or account, and covers iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, CarPlay and Android for a one-time $12.99.
If you only need to chat now and then, the free messaging gateway may be enough. If you want approvals, group chats across computers, a wake word, or your bots on your wrist and in your car, see how Herald compares with the other options.
Questions
Will the official app replace community apps like Herald?
Nobody knows yet. Nous has not shared features, platforms or a date. Community apps already cover things an official first version may not, such as Apple Watch, CarPlay and several computers in one roster.
Is Herald affiliated with Nous Research?
No. Herald is an independent, unofficial app. Hermes Agent and its name belong to Nous Research.
Can Hermes Agent run on the phone itself?
Hermes Agent is built to run on a computer or server. Mobile apps like Herald are clients: they connect to a Hermes you run elsewhere and show its bots on your phone.
