Likely causes
| What you see | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| “No bots match” | A search is active |
| Only groups, or only sessions | A filter chip other than All is selected |
| Bots you run elsewhere are missing | The default profile’s gateway is stopped while your bots run under another profile |
| “No bots yet” although you have profiles | Herald is paired with a different Hermes home, such as a Docker volume |
| “Showing a basic bot list — the full one failed” | The full list failed or timed out, so Herald showed a simpler one |
| “Couldn’t load your bots” | The connection failed; see connection problems |
Check these in order
- Clear the search and filters
Clear the search box and tap All under it.
- List your profiles on the computer
Every Hermes profile is a bot in Herald, and the default profile appears as Hermes.
hermes profile list - Check which gateways are running
The first command lists every profile and whether its gateway is running. Start the one you need; for a specific profile, use
hermes -p <name> gateway start.hermes gateway list hermes gateway start - Pair the Hermes your bots live in
If your bots use another Hermes home, for example a folder a container mounts, point the helper at it and scan the new QR code. Add
--no-servewhen Hermes runs in Docker.HERMES_HOME=/path/to/that/folder npx herald-setup - Refresh the roster
Pull down on the roster, or tap Try again on the error.
How Herald builds the list
Herald asks each connected Hermes for its profiles and shows every profile as a bot. If the full request is slow, it falls back to a shorter one, then to the dashboard’s profile list, and shows a banner so you know the list is basic. If two saved addresses point at the same Hermes install, its bots appear once.
Bots on a second computer only appear after you add that computer in Settings › Connections. See several computers in one roster.
Questions
I only see Hermes. Where are my other bots?
Hermes is your default profile. Other bots are other profiles; if hermes profile list shows none, create one with New Bot in Herald.
Does creating a bot in Herald make a profile?
Yes. Each bot you create in Herald is a new Hermes profile with its own memory and settings, visible to the CLI and Hermes Desktop too.
Why do my bots disappear when a computer is off?
They don’t disappear: Herald keeps showing them with a grey dot and the last state it saw until that computer is reachable again.
